Council of Islamic Organizations · Since 1992
CIOGC is the independent, nonpartisan federation of 70+ Islamic organisations across Greater Chicago — advocating for Muslim community interests and enriching American society through awareness, advocacy, and action.
Building bridges of understanding through workshops, interfaith dialogue, and education that fosters accurate knowledge of Islam and Muslim Americans.
Championing Muslim interests in government, media, and public life — from Illinois Muslim Action Day to national civil rights advocacy.
Delivering tangible impact through zakat distribution, free health clinics, food pantries, and youth empowerment across the Chicagoland region.
Who We Are
The Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago (CIOGC) has served as the unifying force for Muslim Americans in the greater Chicago region since 1992. We are an independent, nonpartisan federation that brings together mosques, Islamic schools, and community organisations under one voice.
Our diverse membership represents African Americans, Nigerians, South Asians, Arabs, Bosnians, Albanians, Turks, Latinos, and many more — united by shared values of justice, community, and service.
What We Do
From Capitol Hill to Chicago’s south side, our programmes create measurable change in the lives of Muslim Americans and their neighbours.
We organise Illinois Muslim Action Day (IMAD), engage lawmakers on Capitol Hill, and advocate for civil rights, immigration reform, and social justice.
CIOGC leads the majority of interfaith dialogue in the Chicago area, building relationships to promote mutual understanding.
Through Zakat Chicago we collect and distribute zakat, operate food pantries, and partner with the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Partnering with Al Farooq Community Health Center, we run free clinics in underserved Chicago neighbourhoods open to all.
CIOGCxMSA connects Muslim Student Associations with mentorship, leadership training, and resources across Chicagoland.
The Chicago Crescent monthly publication and CIOGC weekly e-newsletter reach thousands, alongside proactive media relations.
